Install a Codex pet without moving files.

Open any downloadable pet, copy its verified command, and paste it into Terminal or PowerShell. The installer validates the package before writing it to your Codex pets folder.

  1. Install the CLI oncenpm install --global @pet-studio/pets@0.2.0
  2. Copy a pet commandThe detail page supplies the exact package URL.
  3. Select it in CodexRefresh Settings → Pets, or enter /pets in Codex CLI.

Before you install.

Where does a Codex pet install?

Native packages go to ~/.codex/pets/, or $CODEX_HOME/pets/ when that environment variable is configured.

How do I activate it?

In the desktop app, refresh Settings → Pets and choose the pet. In an interactive Codex CLI session, enter /pets or /pet.

Does the Codex IDE extension show pets?

No. The IDE extension does not currently provide a pet picker or floating overlay. Use ChatGPT desktop or a supported Codex CLI terminal.
